About Britt Kern:

Britt Kern is a 5th year student studying Architectural Engineering (Mechanical Option) at the Pennsylvania State University. In May 2012, he will graduate in the Integrated Bachelor/Master Program of Architectural Engineering. Over the course of his collegiate career, Mr. Kern has received many honors including memberships to Tau Beta Pi (Engineering Honors Society) and Phi Alpha Epsilon (AE Honors Society). He is also the recipient of the Melvin H. Peters Endowed Scholarship and the SciTech Scholarship four times. Britt has participated in the student organizations for the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the Student Chapter of the Partnership for Achieving Construction Excellence (S:PACE). Upon graduation, he will have EIT status from passing the FE Exam in spring 2010.

Over the past three summers, Britt has gained valuable knowledge through internships and volunteering. This past summer, Britt interned at META Engineers where he did mechanical and HVAC design. His days were spent performing load calculations on buildings, creating ventilation charts, and drawing layouts in Revit MEP and AutoCad. In the summer of 2010, Mr. Kern interned at Solardelphia, a local solar panel consultant and installer. He learned to design solar arrays and inform clients of green solutions. During his sophmore summer at college, Britt joined other volunteers on an excursion to the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in Lame Deer, Montana as part of the American Indian Housing Initiative. While there, he helped to spread awareness of sustainable solutions as well as install solar PV panels and a solar hot water system. All these opportunities have allowed Britt to grow and emerge as the professional he is today. After graduation, Britt looks forward to joining James Posey Associates full time as a Mechanical/HVAC Engineer while taking the necessary steps towards obtaining his Professional Engineering (PE) License.

Outside of the classroom, Britt is very active. In his free time, Britt enjoys cooking, playing guitar, and spending time with friends. He has taught tennis lessons for Club Tennis throughout his stay at PSU. He is also an active member in Club Cross Country and enjoys playing just about any sport. It would not be a normal day unless Britt had the chance to get outside and participate in some sport or put a couple more miles under his shoes.
